Ayurveda is an ancient system of medicine that originated in India more than 3,000 years ago. The term “Ayurveda” is derived from two Sanskrit words: ‘Ayur’ meaning ‘life’ and ‘Veda’ meaning ‘science’ or ‘knowledge.’ Thus, Ayurveda translates to ‘the science of life.’
This holistic approach to health focuses on maintaining a balance between the body, mind, and environment. It emphasizes the importance of diet, herbal remedies, exercise, meditation, breathing, and physical therapy to maintain and restore health. Ayurveda views each person as unique, with a distinct individual constitution and a unique set of life circumstances, all of which must be considered in determining natural healing approaches.
The practice of Ayurveda includes the use of herbal compounds, special diets, and other unique health practices. It is still widely practiced in India and has gained popularity in other parts of the world as a form of alternative medicine.
Ayurveda’s philosophy is based on the concept of the three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. These are believed to be the fundamental bodily bio-elements that make up one’s constitution. Ayurvedic treatments often involve balancing these doshas through various techniques, including dietary changes, herbal supplements, yoga, and meditation.
Ayurveda Principles
Ayurveda treats everyone on the same platter, with only the difference being that since all of us are born unique, the concoctions may affect us in a manner that’s unique to all of us. Which simply means that if a particular medicine effects you faster than the others, it might take another person time before he/she gets cured. But cured, he will be! The whole reason why Ayurveda is still widely accepted as a science, is because it uses natural solutions that are applicable to all. Being born 5,000 years ago, Ayurvedic medicines are still very much in demand because they do not belong to the school of thought that demands instant miracles in terms of being cured. It takes its own time trying to resolve the root of the problem, something that allopathy has only so much but tried to reach! There may be many who might not agree with me, but for those who have tried using and have been using Ayurvedic medicines, they are sure to grant in to me a big nod.
